The brief
Fuel storage depots are operations with high safety demands, where it must be traceable at any time which vehicle entered the site, when, and who authorised it. At the same time it is a network of geographically dispersed locations across the country.
Dispersal is the crux of such a brief. If each location handled access its own way, there would be as many different systems as there are sites — and with them as many ways of operating and as many different problems during service. The goal was therefore not just to automate access, but to establish a single standard.
Solutions
The same basic configuration was deployed at every location: controlled barriers at entry and exit, signalling, a record of passages and photo documentation. Differences between sites are handled by configuration, not by a different system.
Uniformity has two practical effects. Staff transferred between locations need no retraining, and the service technician knows what awaits them on site before they even arrive — which means they bring the right spare part.
What the customer gets out of it
A passage is authorised automatically and recorded. Manual intervention by staff is the exception, visible in the system including who carried it out.
Service runs under a single contract for all locations, with regular preventive maintenance inspections and electrical inspections — instead of each depot fending for itself.
